Showcasing practical approaches for a sustainable and just humanitarian system

Objective

The Global Summit on Local Leadership is organized to facilitate joint learning on local leadership in humanitarian support fostered by the governments, private sector, academia, faith-based groups, women’s rights organizations and/or women-led organizations, media, and international and UN agencies.

Specifically the summit will

1. Provide a virtual platform for participants to showcase and learn good practices and key challenges in local leadership in humanitarian systems.

2. Help amplify recent experiences on humanitarian response approaches used by local leaders to protect their communities and mitigate various risks and vulnerabilities.

3. Gather & exchange insights from local leaders on their actions based on 4 thematic areas of the summit.

Thematic Areas

Transforming the aid system to be more sustainable and just.

Humanitarian response including COVID-19 – shifting power, decision making, and resources to local actors including women actors.

Women's leadership in humanitarian actions.

Showcase non-binary gender and cross-sectoral identities and partnerships are critical to locally-led humanitarian actions, with evidence.

Innovative financing and emergency response funding models.

Response funds and funding models that support local humanitarian response including models that support women in humanitarian leadership.

Refugee led responses in a world of upheaval.

Refugee situation that highlights the specific response led by refugees for women, children, and youth refugees.

We are encouraging individuals, organizations and humanitarian groups to send in your papers on the above themes to be highlighted and presented during the summit.

This year the Virtual Summit will be held from July 26 to 27,2022, in two sessions every day i.e. 09:00- 11:00 (GMT) & 12:00-14:00 (GMT) each day. Registration fees have been waived so there is even more opportunity to contribute and attend the Summit.
